A master with a tango legacy

With more tan 40 years dedicated to tango. Carlos Gavito is remembered worldwide as one of the greatest dancers in the history of tango.

Carlos Eduardo Gavito, with each stepped accentuated on the ground and each foot moving with precision, the air around him electrified with energy. His accomplisments earned the moniker of “master”. And yes, although he taught tango, his inargueable talent and fascinating choreography which he showcased on the milonga stages, were enough for hundreds of applause, praise and reverence.

Carlos Eduardo Gavito was born on April 27th, 1942 in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires. Always attached feeling attached to tango, he was recognized for maintaining his traditional dance style, classic and elegant. It was for this reason which in the 90’s he was called, The last milonguero. His talent, contrinbutions and discipline related to the art of tango have served as a study guide for new generations looking to rescue the most essential of tango.

Gavito started to carve his own path and make himself known in tango, thanks in large part, to appearing on television in such programs as “Asi Canta Buenos Aires”. From here, with his knowledge and capacity as a teacher, he slowly profiled himself as a teacher, teaching dance, choreography and how to teach.

He also, made himself known international after forming part of the magnificent team of the show “Forever Tango”. Here, he reached his pinnacle in 1998, with his Tony Nomination for best Choreography. At the same time, his talent shown brightly, with his partner at his side, Marcela Durán.

After more than 40 years dedicated to tango and its teaching, he passed away on the 1st of July, 2005. From then on he was considered by his followers and dance lovers abroad, musicians, bandoneons, pianicsts, a n violinists as a legend.

We’ve decided to share, albeit brief, but informative interview with Gavito. Each word and teaching, each word meant to be absorbed like a sponge to water, in our tango recommendation of the week:
